Tenera was hired to develop specifications for restoring the damaged concrete floor at a warehouse located between Tomken Rd. and Hwy 410 in Mississauga. The floor had multiple compromised areas needing a durable and smooth finish to support heavy industrial use.
Repair Method
The repair process began with thorough preparation and demolition of the damaged areas. This involved chipping away deteriorated concrete to expose stable material underneath, ensuring a clean substrate for subsequent repair layers. After removing all loose material, the area was meticulously cleaned to eliminate dust and debris, which could interfere with the adhesive and filler layers applied later.
Following preparation, a high-performance industrial adhesive was applied to the cleaned surface, enhancing the bond between the original substrate and the new epoxy filler. This adhesive layer played a crucial role in anchoring the new material to the existing concrete, promoting the stability and longevity of the repair.
With the adhesive cured, an epoxy-based filler was applied to fill in the previously chipped areas. This filler was chosen for its exceptional structural strength, capable of withstanding the heavy loads and impact typical in an industrial setting. The filler was leveled carefully to match the surrounding floor, ensuring a seamless transition and preventing any tripping hazards or uneven surfaces.
The restoration was finalized with two layers of high-durability epoxy coating. This coating, known for its superior resistance to abrasion, chemicals, and moisture, was applied in two successive layers, each allowed to fully cure to achieve optimal performance. The dual coating provides an added level of durability and protection against wear from machinery and foot traffic, essential for long-term functionality in a warehouse environment.
In designing the floor’s surface finish, smoothness was prioritized to ensure easy maintenance and cleanliness. No aggregate broadcasting was applied, as a seamless epoxy coating minimizes areas where dirt and debris could accumulate, supporting an efficient, low-maintenance surface ideal for industrial use.
Application Benefits
The epoxy filler and coating materials used were carefully selected for their ability to withstand the challenges of an industrial flooring environment. The combination of industrial adhesive, epoxy filler, and a protective coating ensures the floor can endure heavy operational loads, supporting machinery such as forklifts and providing a strong, reliable foundation. By using these advanced materials and repair techniques, Tenera delivered a durable restoration, built to meet the high demands of this modern warehouse facility.
