Last year, Tenera was approached to provide application specifications for a series of repairs needed at a townhome complex located on Halton St in Toronto. Last week, the contractor hired and supervised by us successfully completed one such project – this time it was foundation waterproofing. This critical repair focused on ensuring the structural integrity and longevity of the foundation walls beneath the windows in the window wells of the basement units, with a total of seven wells being waterproofed.
Repair Method
The repair process began with excavation, providing access to the foundation wall section that required waterproofing. Following excavation, the existing membrane on the wall was thoroughly cleaned to ensure optimal adhesion for subsequent layers. An industrial-strength adhesive coating was applied, preparing the surface for enhanced reinforcement.
To further strengthen the foundation wall waterproofing application, a geotextile layer was installed over the adhesive. This was followed by the application of a high-quality waterproofing membrane, ensuring the wall's impermeability and protecting it from moisture intrusion. To add an additional layer of defense, a foundation wrap board, complete with trim, was installed over the waterproofing membrane. This wrap board enhances the overall durability and effectiveness of the waterproofing system.
Additional weeping tiles were then installed to facilitate efficient water drainage, preventing any potential water buildup around the foundation. The final step involved careful backfilling of the excavated area with soil, restoring the landscape to its original condition and providing stability to the newly waterproofed foundation.
Tenera's expertise and dedication to quality ensure that the Halton St townhomes are now well-protected against water damage. This comprehensive approach not only addresses immediate waterproofing needs but also contributes to the long-term preservation of the complex's structural integrity.
